Slugs! It’s a system in the D.C. area where professionals hitchhike to work. It started because in order to take advantage of the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes there needs to be at least 3 people in a car. It’s not organized by anyone in particular but the pickup locations are passed on by word of mouth and everyone stands in very orderly straight lines. There’s no talking allowed during these rides and it’s free for the hitchhikers aka slugs.
